Local world champion racing pilot Matt Hall, will perform aerobatic displays for spectators in Lake Macquarie around lunch time Sunday 20 November. The free air show is open to the public and will take place at Belmont Golf Course.

Hall, a former Royal Australian Air Force top gun fighter pilot and Red Bull Air Race world champion, will perform a jaw-dropping aerobatic formation display alongside emerging race pilot Emma McDonald and continue on to perform his signature solo display.

Glenn Philips, general manager at Belmont Golf Club says it’s the club’s pleasure to present Matt Hall and to hold this free public event. He welcomes locals or anyone who would like to come down for a great afternoon in a spectacular setting.

“The club is holding 70th birthday celebrations all week and we thought what better finale than an open-house air show with Matt Hall,” he said.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to enjoy a free afternoon out. We’ve got the pristine golf course on the coast as the backdrop and Matt’s got the serious skills in the sky, we’re really excited,” he said.

Hall is expected to be flying as low as 100ft to the ground and at speeds of up to 400kmph. The club’s 70th birthday finale also promises lots of kids activities, live music, BBQ, Tooheys trailer and lunch and dinner specials.

“While it’s a free event, we are expecting a crowd and need to understand how many people will be coming down, so we ask that everyone registers via our website,” he said.

Purely by chance, the airshow coincides with what was meant to be a weekend of international racing action over Lake Macquarie. The region won its bid to host the final race of the Air Race World Championship, but in August this year the London-based organisers cancelled the 2022 world series citing financial reasons.

Hall’s show will be an unexpected consolation to locals and fans who wanted to see the Australian defend his world championship title.

“This a great occasion for Belmont Golf Club. It’s a highly patronised club, an icon of the area and so generous to open up the event to the public,” Hall said.

“Emma and I are in training and hope everyone enjoys the display. We don’t often do displays at home because we are on the road so much and really looking forward to it,” he said.

The event opens from 11am. Hall’s aerobatic display will take place sometime between 1pm and 2pm on Sunday 20 November at Belmont Golf Club. Registrations are essential at this link https://www.belmontgolf.com.au/cms/matt-hall-racing-event/
