Australian Matt Hall and fellow Red Bull Air Race star Nigel Lamb will headline the action at the Temora Aviation Museum’s Flying Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

Hall and Lamb both trained to fly military fighter jets before tackling Competition Aerobatics, Warbird flying and now Air Racing but despite being used to the heat of competition, the pair will fly in friendly formation during the weekend displays.

Hall, a decorated former RAAF fighter pilot this year switched from the air force to the high octane world of the Air Race Word Championships with stunning success and finished his debut season in third place overall.

The 38-year-old from Merewether flew at Temora’s Flying Weekend last month and will fly his WWII P-51 Mustang again this time around, while Lamb is travelling from the UK just to fly the Museum’s Spitfire throughout the weekend.

The experienced Brit was not without his highlights either in 2009, ending the season by placing second in the finale in Barcelona.

Getting the chance to fly alongside Lamb away from competition was something Hall said was too good to miss.

“Originally I wasn’t sure if I could make this flying weekend but when I heard I would get the opportunity to fly my Mustang in formation with Nigel in a Spitfire I made sure I could be there,” Hall said from the USA where he is currently working on his race plane for the 2010 Air Race season.

“Nigel is such an experienced pilot and is one of the toughest competitors in every Red Bull race but flying alongside him in a Warbird will be something entirely different and a lot of fun.

Visitors to the Museum will have the opportunity to meet the stars during Ramp Talk which offers the occasion to see the aircraft up close, talk with the pilots and have autographs signed.

“I have had fun every time I’ve been to Temora and the people are great,” Hall said.

“I am really looking forward to meeting more and more fans at the Ramp Talk.”

Lamb was equally keen to fly alongside Hall and catch up on things in Temora.

“Aside from getting an update on developments at Temora Aviation Museum, It’ll be fantastic to participate in an event alongside Matt Hall rather than as a competitor in the Red Bull Air Race,” Lamb said.

“Matt has had an exceptional debut year. To have finished third overall is a truly amazing result. Matt has set the bar very high and left many of us with plenty to do next year.”

The action packed flying displays planned for the 28th and 29th will also involve the world renowned vintage aircraft from Temora Aviation Museum including the RAAF CA-27 Sabre, Supermarine Spitfires Mk VIII and Mk XVI, CA-16 Wirraway, CA-13 Boomerang, Gloster Meteor F.8, and the Handley Page English Electric Canberra amongst many others.
